FREE MAMMOGRAMS
October 17th is National Mammography Day.
Thanks to this article from CBS’s The Early Show, von Hottie has found a great list of places that offer free mammograms. von Hottie urges you and your loved ones to get a mammogram if you are over the age of 40 and/or have a family history of breast cancer. If you are under the age of 40 and at an average risk of breast cancer, you should be getting an annual clinical breast exam by a physician and performing a monthly self exam.* Feel yourself up! You and your boobies are worth it!

RESOURCES FOR FREE MAMMOGRAMS**:
Please note: Some mammography facilities are offering free or low-cost mammograms on October 17th or throughout the entire month of October.
-
The American College of Radiology - Search for these facilities in your area. The facilities that are participating will be listed with a pink ribbon designation.
-
Local Susan G. Komen Foundation Affiliate: Komen affiliates raise money to help local underserved women obtain breast health services. The affiliate will have a listing of organizations to which they have granted funding, so call to see what services might be available in your area. To locate your nearest affiliate, log onto the Komen Foundation Web site.
-
Planned Parenthood Clinics: Women can make an appointment for all types of low-cost or free health services, including breast health, with the clinic nearest them by calling 1-800-230-PLAN (800-230-7526).
-
YWCA Encore Plus Programs: Services are provided on a sliding scale. Screening mammography is available to women 35 years and older who are medically underserved. Call 1-800-95-EPLUS (1-800-953-7587).
- CDC’s National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Programs: Offer low-cost mammograms and clinical breast exams to women between the ages of 40-64. States are legally able to narrow the age range, so call your state to find out if you are eligible for this program. They may also have information about other facilities in their area for younger women. Call toll-free 1-888-842-6355 (select option 7) or log onto the above Web site for information specific to your area.

Just a reminder from von Hottie to give yourself or your partner a breast exam. It’s easier and more fun when you’re lying down!

The last 100 days of 2009 - a challenge
von Hottie wants to know - what are your goals for the last 100 days of 2009.
Sandyliz, my friend from SocialWorkout.com, has issued a challenge to herself of 10 goals to complete in the last 100 days of 2009.
I am inspired. For all the curveballs 2009 threw at all of us, I’d like to finish off the year strong. Here are the next 100 days of von Hottie:
“No matter the destination, happiness is the way.”
That’s what the 7 train subway announcer said as Mo-rizzle and I pulled into Times Square.
1) 100 pages written (on any of the following: full-length play, one-act play, romance novel, nonfiction book proposal, von Hottie show)
2) 200 von Hottie 2010 calendars sold
3) 50 submissions (grant, project, sponsorship proposals, auditions, wacky press stunts, etc.)
4) 1 mile run. I don’t run. This is a big deal.
5) 20 sexytimes (making out included). NO JUDGEMENT. You judge me, I kick you off the internet. Sexual health is essential to your overall well-being.
6) 100 people attend my awesome von Hottie 2010 calendar launch party.
7) 3 essential doctor appointments completed, including the dentist. YIKES!
8) 100 days of things that make me happy, from wearing pink panties to dancing at stoplights.
9) 100 days of paying attention to my family. I’m horrible at calling them back.
10) 100 days of doing nice things for other people. Opening doors, smiling, leaving love notes, etc.

(Pictured: an assortment of New York Nat’s hair accessories)
September 10th was Fashion Night Out, and the day after von Hottie returned from Paris. After jet-lag-restorative cocktails with part of the von-tourage, von Hottie headed to Plaza Too, a lovely boutique in the West Village. Over glasses of prosecco, von Hottie was introduced to Natalie Ann Griffith, founder and designer of New York Nat, a collection of gorgeous hair accessories, produced locally in New York City. Natalie is orignally a dancer from Michigan (just like Madonna!). von Hottie was especially fond of Natalie’s Debutante, Ella, Champagne Flirt, and The Audrey designs. There’s also a Collegiate Collection for those ladies who want to show their school spirit in ribbon, and a whimsically elegant Bridal Collection.
The price point on these pieces makes them more of an investment than an impulse purchase, but since they are quality, handmade and obvious conversation pieces, von Hottie thinks they are well worth it. Natalie has a clear and beautiful vision, and von Hottie hopes she’ll see that vision adorning your pretty heads soon and often.
